Minion Birthday Party
Despicable Me birthday party for my 7yo was a Lazer Tag party. The kids had a great time and I loved it because there was no clean up for me! I didn’t have to make a lot of extra snacks and treats, it was a pretty minimalist party. Here’s what I did:
The cake was pretty easy, I baked 2 8inch for the bottom and 2 6inch for the top. It’s hard to get buttercream icing to look “flat”, it’s a skill I’m still working on! I used Wilton Decorator Preferred Fondant for all the details. The blue straps were embellished with a simple playdoh cutter that I had at home already! The yellow and black fondant rope around the bottom looks really cool and is an easy way to cover up any icing spill over on the bottom of the cake. The decal was made in the style of “Gru” logo from Despicable Me. I turned it from a G into an “E” for my son. The eyes were a little more difficult that I imagined and they were very heavy and hard to attach. The cute pieces of hair at the top are fondant covered toothpicks!
The goody bags were simple yellow favor bags with minion eyes glued on.
For inside the goody bags I made minion cookies. A round cookie cutter and a lot of royal icing. I placed these in individual baggies that I found on Amazon (Cookie Bags).
Not pictured, I got a bunch of cheap goggles from home depot and colored the outside rim silver to match the minions goggles in the movie. There are of course the toy goggles but they can get a bit pricey ( Official Minion Movie Exclusive Basic Goggles ).
